Welcome to the pages of the Traction Modeling SIG, a group of modelers who exchange information about our special interest, traction modeling. We interpret "traction" in its broadest sense to include all electric rail transportation.

Traction offers special advantages to the modeler who can get involved easily as an adjunct to an existing layout, have sophisticated operations in very limited space, or can capture the grandeur of main line electrification.

Traction is a special prototype, often reflecting an age of American optimism and growth, a time when our country enthusiastically adopted a new technology.

Traction modeling offers a special challenges in coping with overhead construction, pantographs, poles, tight radii and special track work.

Traction offers special rewards: the satisfaction of using our ingenuity and creativity to be modelers, not merely consumers.

Traction modelers are a very small group. We share inspiration, information, and encouragement on a personal and informal level through our newsletter, the Line Car, which features articles, announcements, letters, helpful hints, requests for information and anything else you wish. We will shortly be adding an index of past article information on this site for on-line visitors and members to browse, as well as particularly useful general information and other links.

NMRA membership is encouraged but not required in order to join this SIG. The cost of membership, $10.00 U.S and $15.00 overseas,, includes 4 issues of the Line Car.

For complete membership information contact:

You may also contact the Line Car editor, Andy Reichert, at andy@intelegence.com. The Line Car is normally published twice yearly, but due to the editor's many recent personal relocations has not been published for over three years. There is however enough material on hand to produce several new issues, once enough "spare" time is found to put them together. The next issue is is likely to be delayed auntil at least late 2003.

This information was accurate as of July 2003.
